Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a vaccine requirement?

We require vaccinations in order to protect our students, volunteers, educators, staff, and their families and communities. We believe that it is a matter of equity - the majority of students and families we work with come from systemically oppressed populations and encounter a lot of other obstacles. We’re doing what we can to minimize those obstacles. LAUSD district is also requiring that its employees, partners, and contractors be fully vaccinated.

If I've done Live Scan for other organizations or purposes, can they use that?

Unfortunately, no. The Live Scan is organization specific and that information can never be shared. You will only need to do this once for YS and cleared of this requirement for the future.

Who do I tell if I’m experiencing COVID-like symptoms/am feeling ill?

Please immediately notify your Head Mentor and Damaris Escobar, the Volunteer Support Specialist. Please do not go to your session if you are feeling sick. We will work together to determine the safest next steps for everyone involved. And, talk to a doctor!

How often do I need to have a TB assessment done?

If you complete a TB assessment and are placed at a school to volunteer, you will be cleared for the next 4 years! We will remind you when you need to get another TB assessment.
